Outsand UNILAG student sets new record, graduates with 5 CGPA.
A graduating student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mr. Ayodele Daniel Dada, has set a new academic record with five-point Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), in the institution.
UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello said Dada is from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences and among 10, 907 students who would graduate at next week’s convocation ceremony.
Former UNILAG VC, Prof. Ibidapo Obe said Dada’s academic feat is “certainly a new record “for 54-year-old university.
Bello announced Dada’s academic feat to newsmen yesterday.
He said it was a perfect score. This means he scored As in all courses he took in the programme. “I congratulate Mr. Dada and the staff of the department.’’
He also explained that 10,907 graduating students would receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates and that out of the number, 5,472 would get first degrees while 5,435 are for postgraduate degrees.
Bello disclosed that 178 students got First Class division, 1,617 bagged Second Class Upper division, 2,496 in Second Class Lower, 884 passed in Third class, 274 in unclassified degrees in Medical Sciences and Pharmacy while 50 obtained passes.
He said the Faculty of Engineering tops with the highest number of First Class degrees with 41 graduating students.
Prof Bello also disclosed that the new Chancellor, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El- Ekanemi, Shehu of Borno would be installed on Wednesday, March 3.
Meanwhile, Lagos State University (LASU) has slammed an indefinite suspension on 11 students who organised a party which resulted in the death of Omolara Gbadeyan, a 200 level Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM) student.
The university management, in a statement from the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) made available to Daily Sun said those suspended were old executive members of the Students Society of History and International Studies (SSOHIS).
Among those suspended were (names withheld) chairman, organising committee of the award night; president of the association, vice president, general secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, Assistant general secretary, social director, sports director, speaker and the Lagos State University Students Union financial secretary.
The statement added that the affected students are, henceforth, not allowed to participate in any students-related activity and are expected to face the students disciplinary committee immediately.
According to the release, the 11 suspended students organised the unauthorised party of the association award night of Thursday, February 11.
