AFCON 2017 Dalung apologises to Nigerians for Eagles’ performance.

The Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Solomon Dalung has apologised to Nigerians for the performance of the Super Eagles during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 qualifying match with Egypt.

Dalung in a series of tweets on his timeline, said  “I personally apologised to Nigerians for the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the campaign to AFCON. We must plan better again.

“Nigerians cannot accept any reason for failure from anybody so we either deliver or we give way to those who can deliver success.”

Christian Chukwu, Captain of the 1980 Nations Cup winning team, Green Eagles, also said the boys played their best but did not convert scoring chance to goals.

Chukwu said "The team lacked the zeal to score goals in the early hours in the match.

"We played good enough, but we did not strike our opponents’ net early not until we were one goal down.

"The boys should have strategised on how to score early in the second half, but instead they held on to the ball.

"I still give kudos to the coach for a good job.”

With this loss, Nigeria will not be going to the 2017 edition of the regional football competition which will hold in Gabon.

Nigeria also did not qualify for the AFCON 2013 edition that held in South Africa.
