TV digitalisation would create thousands of job - Lai Mohammed.
The minister of information and culture, Lia Mohammed, has expressed optimism about the digitalisation of the Nigerian broadcast sector saying it would provide thousands of jobs.
Mohammed made this known when he visited Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos on Friday, March 4, 2016.
The
job creation is expected to stem from the switch from analogue to
digital broadcasting hence, having a robust effect on the economy.
“This project is going to bring a revolution not
just to communication and media industry in terms of television,
advertising, content producing and film making,” he said.
“But
it is going to change the economy in a manner that has never been seen
before. Over 5, 000 direct jobs for engineers, another 15, 000 for
technicians, hundreds of thousands of jobs for people who will become
retailers and vendors in all the local governments of the federation.”
The
minister also disclosed that the process would also see Nigerians
watching a minimum of 30 channels on their television free of charge.
Mohammed had visited Jos for the pilot scheme of the digitisation, which has April as deadline.
